Long Ride!

So.  94 miles.  I did not have my camera.

This ride included all kinds of fun.  It started with having to traverse two low water crossings.  Managed to get through these without too much issue.  Following that, I had to find several turns that were not labeled, and then met a nice older gentlemen, heart attack victim, out getting his walk in, who provided quite a bit of guidance, and no shortage of really funny looks after I told him I was riding from SA to AUS.

From there, there was no shortage of long climbs, and errant deer on the side of the road looking like they had been passed through a meat grinder, or at least the parts of a deer that are soft enough to have been run through.  The most interesting of these was having his sensitive’s being expertly carve away by no shortage of vultures.

Next, I made a slow right hand turn, slightly down hill onto a country road, each side covered forest and hill scenery that looks like it were out of a Lord of the Rings scene.  Start cranking a bit harder, and get to a detour in the road.  Apparently part of the tow of Wimberley had been washed away in the flooding, and the road had been closed.  This had been a bit of a mixed blessing, it added 15 miles or about 1 hour to the journey, and about 500ft more in climbing, OUCH.  In doing this however I found a good pair of cheap sunglasses, still useable, and provided much relief.

After that, I hit the wall.  Hit it hard.  I stopped at a Circle-K / Diamond Shamrock, and got two powerbars and a Gatorade, as I was running very, very low on fluids, I also downed about 6 Advil, which seems to have fixed me long enough to get the rest of the way in.

The last section of ride was quite painful, as it was mostly climbs, and raining.  I was picked up by my support car (loving wife and kids) and got something to eat.
