My Knees Hurt

And quite badly at that.  After 163+ miles (Century loop and then some on the MS150) I found that my knees hurt (amongst other things) after that much time in the saddle.

Knee pain while riding can indicate any number of things, and depending on symptom, you can take a number of actions to correct it.

The most common causes are:

  • Faulty saddle height or position
  • Crank too long - especially if you have chondromalacia
  • Pushing excessively high gears (slow cadence in cold weather)
  • Too much leg work in the gym
  • Cleat alignment
  • Individual cyclist anatomy

Cycling Performance has a great break down of individual symptoms and things you can do to fix them.
