Fasting Good?

NPR seems to think so.

For thousands of years, beginning with philosophers like Hippocrates, Socrates and Plato, fasting was recommended for health reasons. The Bible writes that Moses and Jesus fasted for 40 days for spiritual renewal.
However, there is a ton of debate about this for normal every day use, let alone for endurance athletics. I think it is one of those questions best left to a qualified professional.
